So Energy Tariffs: So Unique, So EV and Fixes Reviewed

So Energy sells four fixed deals, a price cap tracker, an EV tariff and two export rates, and is trialling a personalised one. The fixes are priced here from our own daily rate feed, and every other rate is attributed to So Energy's published figures.

So EV

Home charging at that mileage clears the break-even we calculate in section 04, so the 7.5p overnight rate works harder than a flat fix. Ask for the daytime rate at your postcode before you commit, because So Energy does not publish it.

So Green Tracker

This is the one So Energy deal priced below the cap today, by a published £50 a year on the 12-month term and £100 on the 24-month one. It follows the cap up as well as down, which is the trade you are making.

So Green Tracker, or a fix elsewhere

You want a rate you can plan around, and the So Energy fixes relaunched on 15 October at £278 above the cap and £63 above the twelve-month forecast path. Inside the range the tracker is the better buy, and it holds a published £100 under the cap. If the locked rate matters more than the money, compare the fixes on our tracker first.

Not So Energy, on price alone

On our 15 October quotes, Fuse Energy's 24-month fix comes in £320 a year below the cheapest So Energy deal at typical use. We earn nothing on that link, and it is still the honest answer to the question you just asked.

01

So Energy tariffs: the short version

So Energy tariffs cover a wider range than the company's size suggests, and three products in the range lead their category. So Green Tracker carries the biggest discount to the price cap we track, So EV's overnight rate undercuts most of the big EV tariffs, and So Bright Export pays more than any open export rate in our tables. A personalised time-of-use tariff called So Unique is in trial behind them.

The four fixes are priced here from our own postcode quotes. So Mongoose Loyal 24m is the cheapest at £1,999 a year at Ofgem typical use, £278 above the Q4 2026 price cap of £1,723.1

The other three sit £285, £302 and £324 above it. So Energy relaunched the whole fixed range on 15 October and priced it to the January forecast, so the fixes are the one part of the range to leave for now.

So Green Tracker is the deal to look at instead, and the only So Energy tariff priced below the cap today, by a published £50 or £100 a year depending on the term. No other tracker in our feed discounts the cap by as much.4 The So Unique tariff is the most original product in the range, and the one you cannot buy yet.

How SwitchInsights rated this range

Postcode quotes for all four So Energy fixes came in across the 14 GB regions on 15 October 2026. Each is scored on price against its own regional cap at Ofgem typical use, then split by bill line into a unit-rate part and a standing-charge part.

That split is the only way to see which home a deal suits. Rates So Energy does not publish without a postcode, along with the tracker, EV and export rates, come from its own pages and are named at each figure. We review this page when Ofgem moves the cap or So Energy changes a tariff.

Every So Energy product at a glance

The table separates measured prices from rates So Energy publishes. Only the four fixes appear in the daily feed, because every other product is either quoted by postcode after sign-up or priced off the cap.

Two of those products are So Energy time of use tariffs, priced by when electricity is used as well as how much. So EV sets one cheap window for everyone. So Unique sets a different one for every home.

03

So Unique: a tariff priced around your own meter data

Most time-of-use tariffs ask you to fit your life around their cheap window. The So Unique tariff works the other way round. It reads a year of your half-hourly smart meter history, then sets your own Peak, Off-peak and Super Off-peak bands and the rates inside them.10

So Energy announced the tariff in October 2025, with co-founder Charlie Davies calling it "the first truly personalised energy tariff available to UK consumers".9 In July 2026 both So Unique and So EV earned the 2026 Uswitch Flex Accreditation, an independent mark for tariffs that reward flexible use.16

What So Energy claims for it

  1. A saving before you change anything. So Energy quotes up to £150 a year against a default tariff with no change in habits.
  2. More if you shift use. Moving about 20% of consumption, such as the dishwasher, washing machine and device charging, into the cheaper bands takes the figure to up to £200 a year against So Flex. So Energy attributes that to modelling across more than 200 trial samples on 29 September 2025.
  3. A smart meter is required, set to half-hourly readings, because the bands are built from that data.

Three things are still open. So Energy has published no So Unique rates or band times, so the savings cannot be checked independently. The comparison is against its own default tariff and not the cheapest fixes on the market, and the published terms do not say how often bands are reviewed or what leaving early costs.

Access is the fourth. The first trial phase ran with around 100 customers and has finished, and So Energy is contacting its waiting list about the next stage.3

Why it matters anyway

Market-wide half-hourly settlement reaches every GB electricity meter by 7 May 2027, and Elexon had migrated about a third of them by June 2026.14 That is the data layer that lets a supplier price each home individually, and So Unique is one of the first UK tariffs built on it.

04

So Energy EV tariff: how So EV works

So EV is a whole-home time-of-use tariff on a 12-month term. Everything the house uses between midnight and 5am is billed at the off-peak rate, charging for more than one car included, and So Energy puts that rate at 7.5p per kWh.5

Eligibility is unusually open. The car needs to be UK-registered and listed by the DVLA as electric or plug-in hybrid, and So Energy says the tariff works with every home charger, so no approved-model list applies. A smart meter set to half-hourly readings is required, and existing customers can move from a fix to So EV without paying an exit fee.

Against the best EV tariff UK drivers can get today, that off-peak rate competes well: it undercuts Intelligent Octopus Go, E.ON Next Drive, British Gas EV Power and OVO Charge Anytime, and only EDF GoElectric prices lower among the tariffs in our EV comparison.

The daytime rate is the open question. So Energy does not publish the daytime rate without a postcode, and the comparison site Electrifying listed it at 42.88p per kWh in its October 2026 EV tariff round-up.13 That figure is not in our feed, so treat it as the number to confirm in a quote and not one we have measured.

Our calculation

At 7.5p off-peak and the 42.88p day rate Electrifying lists, a home needs about 47% of all its electricity inside the five-hour window to match the cap's 26.32p unit rate. For a 2,500 kWh home that already shifts a fifth of its normal use overnight, that means roughly 1,260 kWh of car charging a year, or about 4,300 miles at 3.4 miles per kWh.

Above that, So EV pays. Below it, a lower daytime rate elsewhere matters more than a lower night rate, and the comparison of the cheapest EV tariffs sets out the alternatives.

So Energy paused So EV for new customers in March 2026 during the wholesale disruption, and the tariff is listed again now. Both rates are quoted by postcode, so it is worth asking what So Energy would quote your address before committing.

05

So Energy fixed tariffs: where each one puts its premium

Every So Energy fixed tariff prices above the cap today. A fix normally does that in a quarter when the cap is low and forecast to rise, so the test is not whether a fix costs more than the cap now, but whether it costs less than where the cap is going. On price the So Energy best fix is So Mongoose Loyal 24m, by £46 a year over the next cheapest.

So Mongoose 18m£2,007+£285+£333-£47£90 per fuel
So Mongoose 12m£2,025+£302+£304-£1£71 per fuel
Median of 14 regional postcode quotes collected on 15 October 2026, costed at Ofgem typical use and measured against each region's own cap. A plus sign means that bill line costs more than the cap. The unit-rate and standing-charge columns are medians taken independently, so they do not add exactly to the total column. Exit fees are waived in the final 49 days of any So Energy fixed term. Source: [2]

So Mongoose Loyal 24m carries the smallest premium of the four, and almost all of it sits on unit rates. Its electricity rate of 30.05p runs 3.73p above the cap's 26.32p, and £272 of its £278 gap to the cap sits on units, not standing charges, so the premium lands hardest on a home that burns a lot.

So Mongoose 18m is the outlier, and the useful one. SwitchInsights' analysis puts its standing charges £47 a year below the cap while its unit rates run £333 above, so it favours a home paying a lot of standing charge relative to the units it burns. For a heavy electricity user the picture reverses, because its 32.09p electricity unit rate is the highest in the range.

Where the relaunched fixes sit against the forecast

Cornwall Insight forecasts the January cap at £1,999, a rise of £276 or 16%.7 The supplier forecasts compiled by MoneySavingExpert run higher, at £2,085 in January, £2,061 in April and £1,876 in July, averaging £1,936 across the four windows.8

That £1,936 is a twelve-month average of four forecast caps, priced on the same Ofgem typical use as today's £1,723. Measured against it, So Mongoose Loyal 24m at £1,999 prices £63 above the default tariff over its first year. A fix bought today therefore locks in certainty at a small premium to the forecast, not a saving against it.

The pricing looks deliberate. So Energy relaunched the range on 15 October and its cheapest deal came out within a few pounds of the £1,999 January cap Cornwall Insight had published a fortnight earlier, which is what a supplier pricing honestly off a forward curve would produce. The reader's question is whether January's expected price is worth paying from October.

Cost over the next twelve months, October 2026 to September 2027
FixedTrackerDefault tariff
Fixed deals hold their scraped price. The tracker row applies So Energy's published £100 discount to each of the four quarterly caps in the supplier-forecast path, then averages. The default tariff row is that same path with no discount, which is why it reads above the £1,723 cap in force today and not level with it. Sources: [1] [2] [4] [8]

Two things sit against it. Fuse Energy's 24-month fix prices £320 a year below So Mongoose Loyal in the same feed on the same typical use, and leaving a So Energy fix early costs £90 per fuel. So Energy waives that fee in the final 49 days of the term, which many suppliers do not.

The full ranking sits on the SwitchPilot tariff tracker, and the SwitchPilot Score behind it is based on price, Citizens Advice rating, complaints record, price certainty and exit fees. SwitchInsights' tracker versus 2-year fix analysis shows where the break-even falls if the cap drops back faster than forecasters expect.

Every So Energy cost above is a 14-region median, so a single address lands a few pounds either side of it. So Energy's own quote tool confirms the rate, the term and the exit fee for a postcode before you commit.

06

So Energy Green Tracker: the cap, minus a published margin

So Green Tracker follows the cap every three months and stays below it by a published margin. The 12-month term sits £50 a year under the cap, £25 per fuel, and the 24-month term £100, £50 per fuel. A smart meter is required and the electricity is 100% renewable.4

That margin is wide for this product type. The only other cap tracker in the feed today, Scottish Power's Cap Tracker, sits £15 a year below its regional cap, so even the shorter So Energy term discounts more than three times as much.

The 24-month version costs about £1,623 a year at today's cap, £376 less than So Mongoose Loyal. It follows the cap upward as well as down, so on the forecast path above it averages £1,836 over the next year, still £163 under the cheapest fix. The So Green Tracker exit fee is £50 per fuel on the 12-month term and £95 per fuel on the 24-month one.

Since the 15 October repricing the tracker is ahead of the So Energy fixes on the forecasters' own path as well as at the cap in force now, which makes it the clear pick inside the range. A fix still suits a household that will pay a premium for a rate that cannot move. Both terms are quoted off a postcode, so check which one So Energy offers your address before deciding.

07

Solar, export and the So Energy Solar Plan

So Energy export tariff rates: 4.5p open, 20p on its own installs

So Energy runs two export rates, and the gap between them is large. So Export Flex pays 4.5p per exported kWh and is open to households that buy their electricity elsewhere, with an MCS certificate and a smart meter required.6 So Bright Export pays 20p, restricted to homes where So Energy installed the panels and battery.12

That split decides the comparison. At 4.5p the open rate sits mid-table, below the 12p Octopus Energy pays its own import customers on Outgoing.15 At 20p the So Energy rate beats every open export tariff we track, which turns the question into the installed cost of the system and not the export rate.

The Solar Plan is one route to that system. So Energy and Hometree Finance lease panels to homeowners in England and Wales over terms of 5 to 25 years from £75 a month, with monitoring, maintenance and replacement included and the monthly price set by survey.11 Compare the total paid across the term against buying outright before signing.

08

Verdict: which So Energy tariff suits which home

So Green Tracker is the pick of the range, and a strong one. It prices £1,623 a year at Ofgem typical use, a published £100 under the Q4 2026 cap of £1,723 and £376 under the cheapest fix. It stays below the cap whichever way the cap moves, and discounts it by more than any other tracker we price.

So EV earns a place for a high-mileage home once the daytime rate is in writing, on an off-peak rate that beats most of the market and terms that do not care which charger is on the wall. So Bright Export at 20p is the best export rate in our tables for anyone taking So Energy's own installation, and SwitchInsights rates So Unique the most promising product here once rates are published and it opens beyond the trial.

The fixes are the exception. The range relaunched on 15 October priced to the January forecast, so a household wanting a locked rate this month can do better elsewhere, and one wanting So Energy is better served by the tracker.

Customer service, complaints and customer reviews

Service sits outside the tariff range, and it cuts both ways here. So Energy scored 2.85 out of 5 in the Citizens Advice supplier rating for April to June 2026, 11th of the 16 suppliers rated.17

It also took a Uswitch Special Commendation for Best Overall Improvement in the 2026 awards. The SwitchInsights So Energy review records 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot from around 31,500 reviews, and covers the company and its record in full.

Frequently asked questions

What tariffs does So Energy offer?

So Energy sells four fixed deals, So Green Tracker, the So EV time-of-use tariff, two export rates and a leased solar plan, alongside So Flex, its default tariff. So Unique, a personalised time-of-use tariff, is in trial and not on general sale.

How does the So EV tariff work?

So EV bills everything the home uses between midnight and 5am at an off-peak rate, which So Energy puts at 7.5p per kWh, on a 12-month term. The car must be listed by the DVLA as electric or plug-in hybrid, any home charger works, and a smart meter set to half-hourly readings is required.

What is the So Unique tariff?

So Unique reads a year of half-hourly smart meter data and gives each home its own Peak, Off-peak and Super Off-peak bands and rates. So Energy quotes up to £150 a year against a default tariff with no change in habits, and up to £200 if about 20% of use moves into the cheaper bands.

Which is the So Energy best fix?

So Mongoose Loyal 24m, at £1,999 a year at Ofgem typical use in our October 2026 quotes, £278 above the cap in force now. How much does the So Energy Green Tracker save?

So Energy publishes a discount of £50 a year below the cap on the 12-month term, £25 per fuel, and £100 a year on the 24-month term, £50 per fuel. The So Green Tracker exit fee is £50 per fuel on the 12-month term and £95 per fuel on the 24-month one.

What is the So Energy exit fee?

Our October 2026 postcode quotes show £90 per fuel on So Mongoose 24m, So Mongoose Loyal 24m and So Mongoose 18m, and £71 per fuel on So Mongoose 12m. So Energy waives the fee in the final 49 days of any fixed term, and the fee that applies to you shows on its own quote for your postcode.

What does the So Energy export tariff pay?

So Export Flex pays 4.5p per exported kWh and is open to households supplied by another company, with an MCS certificate and a smart meter required. So Bright Export pays 20p per kWh, but only where So Energy installed the panels and battery.
